The Shadow that Holds the Light

Amid the work I am completing around Motherline,
a sharp sound suddenly rings in my ear.
It makes me think of the language of dolphins and whales.

A language without words.
Not a language that first passes through the mind,
but one that enters the heart directly.

Because some messages do not want to be understood.
They want to be remembered.

And the temple…
remains standing,
even when night falls over the land.

Today I may share something about shadows.

There are two kinds of shadows.

The first shadow is the shadow that appears
when something comes between you and the light.

It asks for discernment.
For boundaries.
For clarity.

But there is also another shadow.

The shadow that appears because the light is so vast
that it needs depth in order to become visible.

Like a tree that without shadow would have no form.

Like a mountain that without evening light would lose its relief.

Not every shadow is an enemy.
Some shadows are the holding in which light finally dares to reveal itself.

Perhaps mature consciousness is not the disappearance of shadow,
but the capacity to feel which shadow invites you into truth,
and which one tries to lead you away from it.

Because the temple remains standing.
Even when night falls.

And those who learn to trust the silence
will notice that even in the dark the whales still find one another.

With reverence.
