When a Wound Begins to Speak

“Did that man just walk away?”

You may hear it
as if it was meant
to be funny.

But it was not.

Sometimes seriousness
finds its way out
through a childlike voice.

Not because it is light,
but because it can no longer
find another form.

How often is truth
met with a veil
of deafness
or non-receptivity?

How often does a child reveal
exactly those parts
you would rather not face?

Sometimes they show
what you yourself
still cannot
or do not want
to see.

Is it then so strange
that someone, after all those years,
begins to doubt
your real presence
within his or her story?

Perhaps we should not
take this too lightly.

Because sometimes
such a sentence
is not a joke.

But a wound
that, in an unguarded moment,
spontaneously finds
an opening.
